Biofeedback training enables a person to learn how to change physiological activity in order to improve health and performance. Heartmath Biofeedback utilizes sensors placed on a finger or an earlobe, which send information about heart rate and heart rhythm to a computer program. By seeing heart rhythms a person can learn to regulate their physiological responses. That is, when a person is under stress (i.e. pain, goal directed, high performance situation, conflict, emotional upset), physiological responses change. For example, heart rate speeds up, muscles tighten, blood pressure rises, and breathing quickens. Using biofeedback a person can see these physiological responses as they happen on the monitor, and then get immediate feedback and try to regulate them. The idea is to gain more control over these involuntary functions.
Heartmath Biofeedback has proven effective in helping people with a wide variety of concerns.
